I know it's an old cheap trick, but wondered how unreliable it is?

Here's the story, I had a stock rear where the stock LSD was failing on it and got my buddies stock rear with a good LSD that I took to Ron and had 3.73 gears (used from another buddy) installed in it using a ring spacer because of carier differences. This was a bastard rear that was to give me better performance over the stock 2.73 gear peg legs I was laying down, and the idea was to use it until I got the gearset and things to build a good rear for racing.

I was planning on 4.10 gears and a spool, but nobody makes a spool (or even a mini) for the GM 7.5" 10 bolt with 28 spline axles... So a few friends want me to use the old "Lincoln locker" and weld the spider gears togther and to the carrier, but I haven't heard anyone other then 4X4 guys doing this for their trail/mud rigs, and some like it and others don't...

So what are your thoughts on trying it, I have the spare rear if it doesn't work out and the LSD is shot anyway?

Steve,

The car rarely see's the street, the only real road miles it has had in the past year was a trip to Cecil when I couldn't get my buddies trailer and down to your shop to get it inspected...

Outside of that, I didn't realize it was against NHRA rules, but I just checked the rullebook and your right  Sad

NHRA rules or not I wouldn't run a hillbilly posi (welded gears) reguardless.

I would save the money up and get a Moser,Currie, or other aftermarket bolt-in rear. I know the stocker in your car (7.5") is a ticking time bomb and you will need to replace anyway.
