looked at a 2008 nhra rule book today and it said that if you go 999 or faster no matter what speed you need a parachute.  and if you go 10.00 to 10.99 at over 135 you also need one.  this was in the front pages where it has et s and what you need for safety equiptment.  called a few people that i know run in the 9s to check and they had no clue.  missprint or the real deal?

im picking up my shortblock from a ffellow racer in feburary and with a cam swap and some good heads there is a chance i could be in trouble with this rule by the end of the year.

I don't see that in the book.  I did see the 150 MPH requirement in the back.

What page did you see that on?

they were cheap.  they were more as a novelty item.  the chutes are junk but the launchers look cool hangin off of the wall in the shop.

it was kinda of funny ,  i had the chutes tied to the trailer hitch of my truck and went flyin down some back roads and had someone throw them out of the bed at about 60.  sure wasnt a preety sight.  just kinda flopped around out the back door.  guess i didnt pack them right Huh?

Thanks Brian...I think it's my favorite pic of the car so far...was taken at the NMRA event in August
of last year.
I also like the look of your notchback....I had a 1988 Blue notchback I was building until I came across
the hatchback...a deal too good to pass up.

Our DEFINATE answer will come from Jim Halsey and what he says for our first race. Alot of what is read in the NHRA rulebook ONLY pertains to if you are competing within an NHRA divisional or national event and does not apply to all. Their thoughts on safety and particulars are for their shows to run without any inconvenience for time allowances. That does not always necessarily mean that we have to abide by whats in there. I have a call into Jim Halsey, he will let us know what we need.

I didn't need one there the other night.  Went 9.80, and nobody said anything.  I was doing my lic. passes, so they were paying attention.  I think adding one for safety's sake would not be a bad idea though.  Diaper first for me, then chute.

shad, Marc here.  Where are you getting 9.99, are you looking at the back of the book, the quick reference section?  If so, read the last two lines on that page, "In no way, is this quick reference chart intended to supersede or replace the current NHRA rulebook."   So, in that case you have to go to the section that applies to our cars.  Which is section 5 NHRA Summit racing series for super pro, pro and sportsman cars 7.50 and slower.  IN the NHRA 2008 rulebook, go to section 5A on page 103, look down to where you see parachute.   It says, mandatory on any car that runs 150mph or faster PERIOD  It says nothing about ET for our particular class.  Certain NHRA classes require you to have a parachute at any level, just like engine diapers.
Do you guys even plan on running 9.50? You haven't told Redgar to change your class index yet,and we all know you would of done that at least a half a dozen times by now surely! Roll Eyes
So enlighten us on what you found out since you called the nhra tech dept. Whats the worst thats gonna happen? We'll just have to run 10.0. I got a lot of practice with that last year so I'm good.

Larry, can I get so me help here please? Grin
