Hey guys,

Would you jack you car up with it on the trailer ramp/door? I have me car in the trailer since I don't have a garage and I need to pull the rear wheels to have the new tires mounted (BTW, Brian I never got the info for your dad's shop) and there isn't enough room in the trailer to pull the wheels off and the back area behind the trailer is like a swamp whenever there is any rain, so I was wondering if it was safe to just back teh car out slightly and jack it up while still on the ramp...

Has anyone ever done this or do you know of anyone who F'd up their trailer by doing it?

The other option is to go and by a 4X8 piece of plywood (or 2) and set that up behind the ramp sideways and pull the car out onto that and jack it up, but I see that going badly too with the soft ground back there. Any thoughts?

I haven't seen anyone do it but I think that is because it's a bad idea.  The door isn't braced like the floor and when you drive up on it you never have that much weight on it at one time because the front comes off before the back gets on if you jack it up you are putting a ton of wieght in one little area.  I would say no don't do that if anything do it inside the trailer, but then how would you get the rims off the car???

Thanks for the responce guys, I was thinking the same things but wanted to see if anyone has done it before... I guess I need to stop by Home Depot or Lowes on my way home from work one of these days...

My neighbors are going to think I am strange when I pull the car out of the trailer with no front body work and then pull the rear wheels off, but oh well I guess they already think it is strange that I have a 28' trailer in my backyard...

I've seen guys roll the car up in the trailer on a floor jack with broken rears. You got extra wheels right? Just jack one side up at a time and change the wheel out. Make sure you leave the front straped down so it dosen't roll out on ya. Why not just pull it out on the drive way or street? Undecided

Good point Marc. And yeah I was planning on putting the street tires/rims back on it, I guess it won't hurt just to get 1 sheet of plywood and pull it out far enough to jack up the rear from the ground, keeping the front tires on the ramp, and just make sure it is strapped so it doesn't want to roll back, and that should work for me...

As far as moving the trailer. Well honestly there is a lot of work involved in that. I would have to unbolt the gate, and remove some of the fence, and that doesn't include move all the cars around, including the montero that won't start and the mustang that has no interior right now, to then reverse it just put the trailer back because it doesn't fit out on the street when I have the montero out there...

I know I have to do most of this for the races, but I was hoping to have a few of my non-working cars out of the way by then, let me rephrase that, my wife wants them working by then...

So keeping the trailer in the backyard for right now will be much easier, besides my body isn't ready to push an SUV that won't start around right now, I'm out of shape from just sitting at my desk working too much... Wink

Yeah Marc, my street isn't really that bad, It's mostly just my own crap in the way. Here is the overhead shot of my place, it must been taken early last summer some time because the Mustang is in the driveway and the Ram is at the curb, so I must have been driving the Montero that day and that puts the Firebird under the carport.

Our original plan was to build a garage in the back like my neighbor with the brown roof, but instead I have a large ass trailer back there that I have to pull in and out through the carport, it is roughly the same configuration as how his garage is along the fence line on that one side kinda like extending the driveway through the carport. The Montero is on the curb where the Ram is in the pic and has been there since it died in July and that was where it ended up when I pushed it off the trailer. And, now the mustang is under the carport without any interior. So Yes, we are "those" people... LOL

When I brought the trailer home the first time the truck was up in front of my driveway, because of where the Montero is, and the trailer stretched all the way back to just about my other neighbors driveway. You can see those pics here, but it just would take too much to make it fit out front until I get around to fixing the montero, then however I can park the trailer in front of the house for a day or so leading up to a race and maybe a day after so it isn't as big of a deal. At least that's my though, anyway...
