Whatever you buy, make sure it's a 10 ply tire.  Marathons are junk in my opinion if you're going to do any real traveling...  We went through so many of them it wasn't funny while traveling with the ministry and racing the NSCA.  Finally upgraded to 16" wheels and a 10 ply tire..  no more problems.

Try a set of Maxxis M8008 Load Range E  15"

Mark:
I also have heard horror stories about the GOODYEAR MARATHONS.
Actually the salesman at HECHT trailers in TOMS RIVER,NJ recommended the MAXXIS tires even
though he doesn't sell them.
They ARE VERY EXPENSIVE...the 15" 10 ply go for $150 each on their website.
Do you know any dealers on the east coast that carry them??
I would probably stay with the 15" so I wouldn't have to replace all my wheels....and besides, the
16" 10 ply goes for about $185..
Any info would be helpful...

The biggest thing is to take care of your tires.  Everyone has their opinion, but I have over 30,000 miles on my Marathons with no problems.  You need to keep whatever tire you buy properly inflated, cover them when not in use, and don't leave them parked on grass for extended periods of time.  Whatever tires you get make sure you get a quality valve stem (not a car valve stem).  I have seen alot of horror stoies with many brand tires.  You can have the best tire in the world, but if you run it at 45psi in an overloaded trailer at 80mph it's just a matter of time.  Whatever you buy just take care of them and you will be fine.

Keywords are take care of them!!!! I've had all three brands mentioned above with no problems on different trailers. I run nitrogen in mine so there is no moisture in them to dry rot them from the inside out, and I keep non-petroleum based UV protectant on them. Always, always, always check the inflation cold before you leave in the morning so the sun hasn't been beating down on them. If you have to park them in the grass for days at a time, park on pavers or something that will allow air to flow through the tread. The moisture from the ground will rot and flat spot them which will put ya on the side of the road.

This is what happen to a friend of mine when he had a blow out with a trailer he was borrowing and towing with a 1/2 ton truck! Luckly the hitch broke off the ball because his whole family was in the truck with him on the way to Ohio.

Unfortunately I don't know of an east coast dealer for them..  People can say what they want about Marathons,  I'll never own another set...

I found 2 places online where I can order the MAXXIS trailer tires.
One of them has the 15" 10 ply E rated ones for $101 each. That's quite a bit cheaper than
the MAXXIS site.

Thanks again!!

Yeah, it's been for sale for a while now. Don't think he is to pressed about it. But if the money was right he'd let it go I'm sure. It just takes the right person looking for something like that. Said he wanted to get back into racing will his Le-monster.

Bill,

Can you pass out the links? I had 2 trailer tires let go this past weekend and only had one spare which ment the drive home from Cecil sucked... I took out one on the passenger side the way out to Cecil on Friday night, and nicked a curb on the driver side when that one went out, then on Saturday the one that hit the curb on Friday nights blowout desided to go...

i have used carlise tires and have never had a problem,  and i drive from jersey to florida to illinois and all over.  the key is to keep the good.  and spend the extra money for the 10 ply tires load range e tires.  keep the air at the right pressure and i rotate them side to side and front to back every 5000. miles.  over 30,000 miles towing the past 6 years and never a flat or a blowout.  and when they start to get worn they all get changed.    off course i just jinxed myself for my next tow. Cheesy

Well it was only the second time pulling the 28' trailer with weight in it and the 3rd time pulling it ever, so I can definitly put the blame on myself some... But I was more worried about issues with the one side that blew out that I was watching things over there more then the driver side tapping the curb when pulling into the gas station to fix the flat one. After changing the flat, I checked the driver side tires and they looked all good to go and scuffed a little from rubbing the curb. It was only when I was going over the check before pulling out of Cecil did I see that the one on the drivers side was loosing air slowly, and had a gash in it. I pumped it back up and drove very carefully home, it actually made it home but with about 20 PSI in it when I got here. With a slow leak and a small chunk taken out of the side wall, I would just feel safer replacing it...

I used to blow out at least one Goodyear Marathon every trip on a 28' enclosed to the point I would have to carry two spares.  It would never fail when the weather got hot running 70-80 MPH making great time.  I finally bought a set of cheap 16" American Racing white wagon wheels and installed E load rating Michelin XP Rib REAL truck tires and never had a problem.  When I sold the trailer I kept the 16" wheels and Michelins and I wont be buying a new trailer anytime soon I will sell the set of 4 wheels w tires plus a spare.

Hey guys, a local tire shop had a deal I just couldn't pass up, 10 ply (E rated) carlisle, mounted, ballanced, and out the door for $130 each. Now I just need to find the money to finish fixing all the things that I broke on the way to or at Cecil...

Anyone know anything about superwinch winches, mine locked up at Cecil when trying to load the car?
I also need to fix the brick pillar I hit, and the table I hit when trying to avoid the brick pillar after hitting it once, and the fence...

Yeah it was a stellar time, parking this thing with a low tire I tell you...

slow, glad you made out okay with the tires!  on the winch , alot of times the cable gets twisted and will bind up !! you have to watch it as you're loading the car to make sure it's retracting properly , especially as the winch ages !!       shadow  Shocked  Shocked
