I have a sponsor for my transmission stuff, and have had used them a few times getting work done at cost + a little, but that is also from a friend of mine and I wouldn't let him make nothing on his work.
I just got a sponsorship offer from a shop where I didn't know about them other then reputation. The guy that has the current LT1 bolt-on record that I am working on beating had just reached out to me to get a few parts that I still need from them at their costs and free shipping if I run stickers and help telling the LT1 guys about their help. I think that is pretty cool, maybe once I hold this record I can get sponsorship money so these events aren't so expensive...

Yeah it is cool that I feel like I am on top of the world right now even though all it is is pretty much an unsolicited discount on parts, and he is even doing leg work to get things cheeper. He didn't work with QA1, but when I was telling him I was making my own rear suspension he called around to find me the cheepest rod ends in the style that I was looking for. I was going to call Lee over @ S&W to see if he can get them for less, since they sell them, and if not (since Lee can only offer 10% off) then this really worked out just in time for this project...

Well he built his shop around having the record holding bolt-on LT1, but ended up popping the motor shortly after getting the record... He then built up another LT1 and has been playing with a new LS1 shop car, but now that I am getting close to teh record he figured if he can help me with parts then his shop (or help from his shop) now had the top 2 or previous and current record holding cars...

Congrats John. Maybe I should LT1 swap so I can get in on that deal too If you want the headache of the LT1 then go for it but if I was swapping motors it would not be an LT1. Then again I am looking to build something for another class here anyway, and I know the LT1 has no chance in that class, at least not without a whole lot of money in it since the fastest N/A LT1 has only been in the 9.30's, and that was lighter then the weights of the class/motor...

I have aspirations to run in a heads up class and would love to try D/R, but it will be a slow process getting there I think maybe over the nex 2 years or more... But then again at the way those guys are heading it will be an 8 second class by then...

car being my current one, engine is still up in the air, It will either be a SBC or BBC, but I have had thoughts of doing a poncho motor as well, but that will kill the budget. Speaking of budget, I know how much it will cost to get the chassis there about 4-5K, and the motor depending on what I go with will be in the 8-12K range, and all the supporting items like tranny, rear, misc safety stuff, and etc. another 4-5k or so. I was hoping not to go too far over 20K, this is why it may take a while to get there. The chassis and rear will hopefully get done over this next winter if not before, becaused once I hit 11.50 I am doing a full 10pt (1 5/8 CM) instead of wasting money on getting a 6 pt (1 3/4 CM weighs more) when I know I will want to upgrade in a year or 2, so I will take on that extra 20-30# just to have the cage done for later. I will also be getting either a nice 12 bolt, or 9" rear that I am sure can get me to where I need to be, that is planned for this winter as well but may come earlier if the stock 10 bolt breaks before then. I have been reseaching engine combinations for about a year now and on paper they look good, but I need to see where the weight of the car will be before making the final choice, because I would be giving up too much if I ran a motor and couldn't even get down to the minimum weight of that CI motor in the class. There is no point running a kick ass 2+ HP/CI 327 if there was no way my car can get down to the 2835# base or 50# less if I don't run training wheels (after seeing Curts last pass, and knowing how 4th gen f-bodies like to ride the bumper anyway, I will probably run them)... So next year I should be able to scale the car with the cage and a few of the required safety items and figure out what it SHOULD weigh, then choose the best motor/tranny combo to get me into the competition. Then it is spending a year or so building it, unless I hit the lotery before then... At least that is the plan, but we all know how plans normally go...

I'm not sure about her's because I think she is body type specific, I think she has the fastest bolt-on LS1 GTO record in the 12's somewhere, and the one I am shooting for is the fastest bolt-on LT1 (Not vehicle specific, although in an LT1 production vehicle like the vette, camaro, firebird, impala SS, caprice cop cars, buick roadmaster, and caddy crap I forget the caddy model that had an LT1 stock) that is currently at 11.805 @ 113.98 and my best run to date has been an 11.860 @ 115.09, with a 60' that was about a tenth worse then the current record holder...

Melissa has the fastest bolt on LS1 gto right now she ran 11.98 @ 113mph about a month ago at e-town, as for us trying to run up against others with LS1 i dont think we have a chance to catch the f-body guys they are flying plus there suspension works alot better then then gto's
