If the 10.5 racers get a weight break for not running wheelie bars, shouldn't the drag radial guys get one too?

Just askin

Todd & Rich,
I agree, and this is a topic that we have discussed amongst our group.  Why don't the Drag Radial guys get a weight break for no Wheelie Bars?Huh?? I think that it would spice things up a bit.  Give the same weight break to the D/R guys without them that you do in 10.5.  It could entice some guys to come out that are on the fence.  What do you say?Huh?Huh?Huh?

Lets talk about 2-speed Powerglides and Nostalgia weight breaks. They are offered in most heads-up classes in Pro and NSCA.

Ok here is how I look at it...I believe the cars that are out there now using the wheelie bars could basically run without if needed. If I offer a weight break to run without say 50lbs, do you want to give that extra to Ron or Kurt to take off, cuz trust me, I am sure Ron can make his car work without them and would have no problem taking 50 lbs off, or for Kurt for that matter. Right now many would say let me take advantage of that 50 lb weight break but in reality I would be giving it to everyone across the board and noone would run them...which I could care less, but you really havent achieved anything...or have you? You all would be running at the same intervals, or maybe I am wrong.

The Nostalgia weight break wont happen in this series unless we did something in the PRO ranks, but I am a firm believer that aerodynamics are playing a very small role in the cars in D/R and 10.5.

The transmission issue is a tough one....with so many different combinations (engine-wise) out there, I am not so sure that a powerglide doesnt play an essential role in some. If we were all 290 cube...I would say the idiot running a p/g should get a break, but with so many combinations it would be hard pressed to say which it would adversely effect. I may be wrong and there is always a possibilty we may offer something later as a break.

(please todd dont tell me now that black cars absorb more sunlight and the engines run hotter and therefor deserve a weight break) LOL

Rich,
We realize that those two guys would get a break as well.  It would not be fair to them if they did not get the break.  Do it and see if they really would take them off.  I would like to see what would happen myself.  Think about the extra challenge to those guys as well as the other racers who are running them and then suddenly without them.  Offer it up and see what happens.  It is not like we are asking for wheelie bars to be prohibited, just give a break for those who want to TRY to run without them.

Thanks

I THINK ITS TO MUCH WEIGHT TO PUT 50#S IN THE CAR IF YOU HAVE TO RUN WHEELIE BARS LET ME TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT HOW MUCH IT HAS COST ME SO FAR IN MONEY BECAUSE OF NO WHEELIE BARS.IT WAS GREAT FOR THE PICTURES BUT HEADERS NEEDED TO BE FIX,A NEW BACK BUMPER & PAINT WORK,NOW I JUST FOUND OUT THAT WHEN IT CAME DOWN AND THE HEADERS HIT IT LIFTED THE HEAD AND BLOW A HEAD GASKET SO NOW I HAVE THE MOTOR OUT.I THINK WHEELIE BARS ARE MORE A SAFTEY ITEM THEN ANYTHING ELSE.AND THAT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CARY 50 EXTRA POUNDS.

Last year I tore my car up pretty good in North Carolina from a pretty nasty wheel stand.  I spent the cash and got the car fixed.  First time out this year, i tore it up again.  As racers we should discuss this in an open forum if we collectively feel that it is a safety issue.

Ya know what Rich, that is cold....I am terribly sorry. But you realize a 3spd may be a help for that little motor.

I think I should get a weight break for running an import

About 200lbs would be PERFECT...not so much to make me competetive but more so I dont have to find a way to strap 200 extra lbs in the car..... Cheesy

Anyone wanna ride shotgun??? Cool
