So now that the racing season is coming to an end what are people's plans for the off season???

Car:
Chassis work including cage, minitubs, maybe a new front K-member. Then finally getting away from the stock LT1 motor, but nothing extreme for right now, just heads, cam, and intake work for now.

Personal:
I start a new job next week, so hopefully this yea I will not be complaining about not having time to do crap since it is a normal day job and not the consulting stuff I have been dealing with. The bonuses include; sleeping in my own bed every night, and having more nights and weekends free for car stuff/racing...

So that being said I have a goal to compete in the AMI class again, for at least the first part of next season, in the 10.50 or 11.0 index. Then if money and timing work out might have something for a heads-up class...  Wink

What are you guys up to?

First I hope to finish the season Saturday without breaking anything.

Right after that, I take the car to Carroll's for a manual braking conversion.  I don't like the way the brakes feel at the line when I start to load the converter and it loses vaccuum.

I have toyed with the idea of putting a small shot of nitrous in the car to be more competitive in our Corvette 10.0 class but I really am unsure of the future of the at class.

No major changes planned for the sled....costs too much to go to races so saving the funds for that.

Will run a limited NA Shootout AMI schedule likely (I really wish we can pair us off in indexes)

I am looking for more heads up stuff at my ET and have found a couple of options.
New England Dragway has a street series with a 10.50 heads up index and
Fun Ford Weekends becomes Battle of the Brands next year and they have a Street Bandit class that is heads-up 10.60 index so I hope to make a couple races on their schedule.

Been talking to another series about a Corvette specific event.

The most important thing.....practice tree!!!!
Just found I had a Biondo Final Round II that needed a plug so I ordered that and a foot peddle and will work on that all winter.

Car –

Hire a private detective to research Charlie Booze, Leonard Long and Larry Rhoads so I can infiltrate their race program in hopes of duplicating it myself.  Mawawawawawawaaaaa    Evil

If the above mentioned doesn’t work:
Freshen motor and find more horse power - Install sneaky Pete nitrous system so that it is not detected by RAM officials.  Install nitrous progressive controller under seat to control nitrous and to hide from RAM officials.     Evil  Evil

Install oil retention device, on board fire extinguisher system, and purchase a Hans device.  As I am certain my husband is trying to kill me and I need all of the safety equipment I can get my hands on. . . .

 Shocked

 Smiley  Smiley  Smiley
Seriously – Freshen motor, trans, and purchase all of the above mentioned safety equipment.  Tighten up frame and cage some more, build a new airpan, and misc other stuff.    Cheesy

I started a new job this summer working at HFR Fabrication. It's been a long time coming as I've been a full time Mr. Mom for the last 8 years. Our youngest started all day kindergarten this fall which allowed me to start back to work semi-full time.

The Malibu is getting a new engine, trans, converter, driveshaft, tires, custom headers, exhaust, front crossmember notch, TRZ R&P conversion, etc. Got alot of work to do before spring, just hope It'll be done by then.

Let's see, I will change the oil, the plugs, adjust the valves, wash and wax the car and trailer. The good thing is not much to do. After fixing the trans problem I now have two transmissions plus a motor with only 60 runs. I plan on running AMI again next year plus the Shootout series at Cecil plus whatever else I can find.
Redgar, before you take the power brakes off, look info a vacuum pump just for the brakes. I have been using a GM one for years. Works great and I am never out of vacuum. As long as I have battery and the key is on I have great brakes. I have 4 wheel disc with Wilwood fronts. The one thing I may do over the wihter is change my rears to Wilwoods also. Drop me a not eif you want the GM part number for that pump. PS it only weighs about 2 pounds

I have no real plans for the new car yet other than some rear suspension work.

I hope to be able to make a few more races next year than I did this year. I am not rich like you guy's.  Grin

I am currently saving up some money to hopefully  buy Mike C's short block. If he still has it. So I guess I will be helping him out a touch.

See you guy in the spring!

Oh I will be running the 12.50 class next year.

Yes Norm the shortblock is waiting patiently for you, the new shortblock is near completion and we'll see if any other surprises are in store.  My big project is to help my father convert his small bolt pattern Dodge Dart to a large bolt pattern disc brake Dart. Thanks to Warren and Cliff Sebring for hooking us up in the MOPARts department.

Not too much to do over the winter,really...thinking of possibly going to a 16 volt battery instead of the (2)
12 volt...also have to adjust the tune a little bit...car was loading up fuel in the injectors after it warms up.
Had my best E.T. yet @ Fords at Englishtown..9.87...so should be good for the 10.00 AMI class next year.
Hope to run more events in 2009...btw...I'm running a Ford Performance Solutions 428 Windsor and have had
no problems with it...very consistent...also Troy Bowen is a great guy to deal with...you actually talk to him when you call most times, not some salesperson... Cool

Sadly, I am taking next year off.  Too many projects, and not enough $.  I plan to paint my ugly ass car, and begin a new motor build.  I'm going to drag a few more Pontiac guys over to the RAM series, and help them out.

Well, if anyone cares. Here's my game plan for next year. After pretty much taking off the last 2 racing seasons and paying a Ton of extra money towards our mortage. With-in a few months... our lil' Love Shack home in good old WV should be paid-in-full!! That should free-up alot of coin to try to play at the drag strip again. After I saw MSRA open-up the rules in the DOT 10 sec class. I figured that should fit me fine, after I put a small N2O shot back on the car.lol.... I've have yet to call Matt and confirm the rules though. Cecil and MIR are a Loooong tow for me so I'll probably just see the  regular AMI guys/a few class racers @ Mason if thats still on the schedule next season.

Plans for the winter:
1) Make the car safer, more driver friendly and (hopefully) quicker, maybe drag radial next year if the big boys will let me play and if Rich can help me with the HP

2)Put on some good snowmobile miles in Canada, NY, PA, MI, (wherever the snow ROCKS!)

Well I think I may surpass my estimates so far 6 30packs but had to stop with the noises my throat starting hurting resorted to just sitting on a stool and looking at the car on jack stands still no call from the sheriff or Ralph credit card bill was high last month so no more coors light had to go to natural light  Sad
