if their was enough cars, it might be something to look at. just remember drag radial has tight engine building guidlines and would be willing to bet a lot of AMI cars aren't drag radial legal and already aren't as fast. and to be competitive in 10.5, they'd have to drop close to a second of ET. the next step up is a lot bigger than it seems i would think. nothing wrong with keeping a 9.50 index either.

If one was to build an AMI car to go that fast, wouldn't they instead shoot for a heads up class?

this race series is hard enough to run as it is, and you want to make it more difficult. maybe you should ask Rich for one of the jobs to help run the series. i would say you are definitly out on a limb. i think that there are only 4 to 6 cars that run the 9.50 index as it is.

Add as many classes as we have sponsors for? So if you want to sponsor a class give up all the purse money for the whole season by Mar. 1 and Rich will make it happen!

BRIAN, to answer your question as best i can, sometimes cars are PURPOSE built to run in a certain class, especially back in the day, & now too !! in the NMRA OPEN COMP class , quite a few of the top players have cars that run LOW 9's, and the class is not HEADS UP !! it is also the LARGEST class in their series. so apparently people will build cars & don't care about running HEADS UP, also some racers run more than one series, & try to fit into a class that is as similar as possible. BILLS' car for example fit best into the OPEN COMP class, both in NMRA & FFW . but then he found RAM AMI that was the BEST fit of ALL . so why do people choose one class over another, its whats fits BEST, or what they happen to like , or can afford & the i have to be the fastest thing !!! George, I see your point. It's nice to be able to easily switch between classes/series. Also, it's probably much easier to build and maintain a nine or eight second car for index racing than build, maintain, constantly upgrade and find more ponies each year on a heads up car.

Being one of the cars capable of running well under the 9.50 index last year, I can't see dropping it any lower without either. A, lowering the top index as well, or B, breaking the class in half. I can't see where either would be a good thing for the class. MG saw an awesome turnout for 9.50. I was one of the big pushers for 9.50. Not so much for car count, but for a place to race while you go through all expenses from 10.00 to 9.99. Also gives you experience with the little things most don't think about, like driving with a window net right on you or gloves and a neck brace. Just food for thought. I think its perfect right now the way its set up. You can start out with only a helmet and work your way down through all the safety stuff without having to leave the class. Rules are wide open. What more could ya ask for?

REDGAR, the refference to the largest field was for NMRA OC , not RAM, although RAMS AMI is the largest in the RAM series, being a fellow stats guy, when i was piting with my old boss, we had stats on everyone in his class, everything i could find !!! btw, his class MM is similar to AMI except for the N/A part, the person who won the class 3 yrs in a row, won $ 10, 000 @ a few events each year, plus a new car also, & he was in the MIDDLE of the pack. ROBERT HINDMAN . he knew the class well, was extremely consistant, was able to run every event & get all the points he possibly could, proving you don't have to have the fastest car in the class, to come out on top !!!!! GOOD LUCK in 2009 !!! SHADOW
