Every car's different. Stockers have killer sixty's. I can out sixty ft some nine second cars. But they're making a whole lot more top end power. I was right there with Erica Coleman's sixty ft at the last street car shootout, but she's like a second quicker than me.  I like to use nhra stockers as the "standard" for what a sixty ft compared to e.t./mph should be.

i was thinking the weight of the car / driver, the hp / torque of the motor, gear ratio/ rear tire size, maybe even if your using a trans brake, & last but not least the suspension setup, comparing it to another car is only good if things mentioned are similar, don't you think ?    SHADOW   Wink Wink Wink

List all your numbers and if someone has something comparative they can offer up theirs.
I can tell you your 60's are a tad quicker then mine which is on par with your ET being a bit quikcer.
I have gone a best of 1.37 this year with a 10.27.  However, it is low ot mid 1.4s in hotter weather.

Here is what I want to know however....is that 1.36 of yours really a consistent 1.36?
Does weather not play into your 60'?
I could never say I was a consistent anything.  Not just because I may stage shallow, deep or lots of places in between but because my car will not 60 in -1000 DA is it does in 3000 DA.  Are you factoring out weather, slight spins, slight bogs?

REDGAR, here goes ,we try to make the car the same for every pass, same amt of fuel. tire pressure f&b, the suspension settings, launch rpm.  being an EFI car the weather hasn't made a difference, having them BIG slicks keeps it from spinning for the most part , if the 60' does differ it may be a 1.38 at worst !!!  SHADOW   Wink Wink Wink

In the fourth round at the Nov 1st street car shootout I ran a 10.37 at 127.3 w/a 1.36 sixty. My sixty's were 1.38's and 1.37's throughout the day except when the track/air got a little better in the 4th rnd. Erica had a 1.35 and ran a 9.42
At the Nov 29th test n tune I ran a series of 10.30's and I was sixty footing 1.37's and 1.38's during five runs and ran a best of 10.32 at 127.8mph. The track was fair, some oil downs and a little slippery on one run. My avatar is the 10.32 run. Doesn't yank em real high but gets to the sixty marker quick.

BRIAN, BILLS' car weighs 3,000 w driver, about 600 hp, 4:30 gears, with that BIG slick [not sure of exact size] i know if a car weighs more, its alot harder to move forward than a lighter one, thats why i asked is there a formula, where you put in your info to get an estimated 60' for what you got !!!  SHADOW  Wink Wink Wink PS   you get BETTER et's when it goes FORWARD,  not SKYWARD  Grin Grin Grin

Mike, nice 60' times! I remember when Bobby DeArmond (A/SA 69 big block Camaro) was running 9.99 barely reaching 130mph turning 1.31 sixty's.

George, thanks for the lesson. I know going forward is more efficient than going upward. I've seen cars go sky high with lesser sixty foot times than mine. Btw, I'm 3100 w/me and a est. 530hp 347.

Tom's car is very impressive. It's come a long way over the years. I remember a long time ago he used to drive it to the track towing a little utility trailer behind it carrying his tools and stuff. I think it ran like 14 seconds?

TOM, you didn't mention the gear ratio, to get 3600 lbs. to 60' @ a 1.30 is amazing !!!  so going by that, we should by trial & error, get the car to do better than a 1.36 , maybe expect a 1.32 /1.33 !!!  i think in a post, or maybe it was a video, CHARLIE BOOZE JR. said he got his car 60'ing @ a 1.26 !!!!!  thanks guys, SHADOW   Wink Wink Wink

George, I wouldn't get too hung up on sixty foot times. You're right there with a 1.36. As long as it's consistent, which it sounds like it is, probably leave it alone. I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve but it sounds like your dialed in!

BRIAN, was just trying to see if we were close on the chassis setup, BILL bought the car from a fellow who also ran it in OPEN COMP, but had a much larger motor, different trans, rear end ratio, weight was taken off the car from when he ran it. so it looks like we are in the ballpark, with ALL the new cars we might be seeing with the rule change, we need to be as best as we can be, both car &  driver wise, we are sticking with B/AMI , only making a couple minor changes, & getting ready for the opener !! btw, i wasn't giving you a lesson, i think if a car lifts more than a ft. on the launch it is defeating the the overall run buy scrubbing off et, just my 2 cents.  GOOD LUCK in 2009 guys !!!!    SHADOW    Wink Wink Wink

I think he's running a 3.55!

Ok, not really.

George, ok now I see what you're after. "we need to be as best as we can be, both car &  driver wise"

You are correct! You gotta be as sharp as can be and your equipment up to par, also. There's a lot of talent in our class and a lot more new talent coming I'm sure.
Looking forward to the 09 season!!!! Good luck with the winter upgrades!

Big Tom will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's only running a 4.56 gear and a 30" radial slick which IMO makes his car even more impressive.
Just goes to show his relentless pursuit of perfection on that car since 1986.
Having the same car for 23 years lends very fine tuning.
I've seen him trouble shoot that car @ the track and bring a spare part out of the trailer and come out next round like nothing ever happened,I look at him and think hhmmmm ,Id be loaded on the trailer and take the next week to figure out what went wrong Huh?

I run 4.56 gears. The tires are 29.5 by 10.5. It is a turbo 350 with the stock 2.52 first gear. The suspension is stock. I use the factory springs, front and rear, lower control arms and panard bar from Hotchis and Koni SPA1 shocks front and rear. The torque arm is a Summers Brothers unit. There are some tricks but I can't tell you guys all my secrets.
The motor makes a buch of torque. All out I shift at 7000 and go through the traps at 7400. The power band on this motor is flat from 6800 to 8000. It only varies about 10-12 hp. I add weight and adjust the shift point to slow it down.
It is all in the balance. Did you guys ever notice how big I am and where I sit in the car? I am 6'93/4 inches and weigh in at about 340. The bar in the car is steel and the front hoop, side bars and down bars are chrome moly. It is all in the weight and where it is.

Car has been 1.270 on DR's. We would pull alot of timming out in the front part of the track to get it with in braking distance of the 9.50 index. We never really pay much attention to the 60's. Yea its good to look at, but we work off the 330' for everything. We would stay in the 1.32 to.34 range with the 9.50 set up at 3800lbs.

Faster car the 330 shows more than the 60 for us. You can trade up and down 60 better or worse with gearing/converter change and 330 stays similair

Converter changes most, with radials we dont see much in the gearing. stepping down from 4.30s lost us nothing

Quickest 60 fts will be with a radial tire.  We run 275 drag radials, 4.10 gears, string of 1.26s.
