Hey guys I'm looking for some oppinions. Here's the story... Big block mopar with about 1500 passes on it. I changed out my rockers and shafts last week (Crane gold race) because I noticed alot of silver sludge sitting in the heads. I knew last season durring a valve spring change that my shafts were starting to get gualled up, but not too bad. After I took them off I saw they were totaly wasted!! I decided to put new Harland Sharp rockers and shafts on for this season. The motor usually holds no less than 60 psi oil pressure @ idle (1000 rpm) hot with 20w50 and Lucas HD oil treatment in it. After the swap I put 10w40 in (no additive) and drove it about 30 miles to flush out motor. At start up it was holding a good 75 psi hot but after the drive it droped to about 45 psi. It still holds 60 psi at 1500 rpm and the oil is clean. Haven't changed it yet to put 20w50 back in. Question is... do you guys think that is normal to loose that much psi with a thinner oil? I'm now planning on putting new bearings in within the next month due to my shot nerves lol but first race is Saturday and don't have time to do it between now and then. Any thoughts? Thanks!

OK I'm scared now too, I have always used Fram filters, is there an issue with them?

yeah they are junk What are good (non-junk) suggestions? I put good oil (Series Ssponsor, Joe Gibbs Driven) and change it regularly, so I haven't seen any issues but A am also not running anything nearly as fast as you guys so I guess the Fram hasn't killed my motor yet, but hey if it's a week link then it gets Yanked...

i switched to NAPA Gold filters which are made by Wix. i'm running the Brad Penn oil and when i looked at the bearings this winter they looked like thay were just put in. motor was clean with no dirt or sludge buildup in it.

I'll see a 15 psi difference between 10W-30 and 20W-50 if I recall. I stopped using Fram filters years ago. I use FL1A motorcraft.

Yes, stick with the Wix. Check ebay, and buy a bunch, so much cheaper on ebay. I got 6 filters for $55 which normally cost $25 each in the store.

Yes, I have had problems with fram filters to. they collapse and restrict the oil flow.so your oil pressure low.

It really depends on your oil system and clearances Tom.

I run 10-40/20-50 oil with the mains at .0030 and rods at .0025 on my BBC 60psi cold(thats when my pump bypass opens)15 psi at idle warm.I shift at 7,000 at about 55 psi of oil press no problems...but it is a chevy.I used the fram hp filter with no problems for a while but switched to a moroso a couple of years ago when i heard about the problems fram was having
