I am taking advantage of the cash for clunker Gov. program tomorrow. I am trading my 98 dodge mini van on a 09 Dodge caliper SXT. $20220 list. $11680. out the door plus tax and tags. That is a great deal for me But. today I find out they are going to dump "something" in the motor of my old friend/van and run it 7 minutes or till it blows up. What is the gov. thinking. I loved my old van but it was "junk yard" material. but I hate to kill her that way. My 63 wagon was to old to CFC and My 01 Durango was worth $1000 more on trade but way to nice to CFC my 95 v10 truck would not cfc but the same truck with a 5.9 would WTF.
Anybody else taking advantage of this program? What did you get. and trade? Cliff

What a waste This is from friend of mine on a another board. i don't need to say any thing he all ready did it for me. Quote: As most of you guys know im a manager at a parts store... and i received an interesting call from one of our best customers.. a Mazda dealership.. they wanted a couple quarts of sodium silicate.. im like wtf for? even my boss was puzzled at the request.. turns out the dealerships that are getting cars as a part of the cash for clunkers bill, use sodium silicate solution to fully destroy the insides of the engines of the cars turned in!! Im like WHAT?!?! WHY??! the answer is simple.. when the cars go to the junkyards, they dont want the engines of the cars turned in to return to the roads, powering another host car.. so they send them on a 6000rpm free rev with a belly full of poison till their cranks lock up... SO great.. If your "finacially challenged" and you drive a car in the window of years that the cars are blacklisted and you blow your engine, expect to pay out the nose for a decent core.. cause you wont find one in the junkyard that will drop right in and go.. there will be guys hoarding 90's 4s, 6s, and V8s hoping to cash in.. I mean sure.. A lot of good guys who can use some extra cash hoading their now unavailable power plants but wtf? nothing like poor Sam the roofer barely making a living, scouring a the junkyards for a Vortec 350 to get his work truck back on the road finding murdered engines oozing poison out every oriface with a stuck crank.. dumb luck.. and now hes screwed having to pay for a new remanned engine or some gear head junky trying to get $1000 bucks for a once $200 core... grrr.. sorry about the rant.. im just a bit disguisted..

That sucks I don't see the point in murdering an old car. As stated before not everybidy has the money to buy a new car why destroy what somebody else can use. I can understand crushing the car but why the reusable parts?

I bought a Pontiac GXP G8 a couple weeks ago and the sales manger I've known for years told me all the dirty dirt on this! There is a lot of stipulations to it like the MSRP has to be under 40K no matter what you pay, the GPM on the new car and the year and miles on the trade etc..... He also told me the dealerships will be fined 10K on every sale that dose not comply with the terms. YIKES!!!!!!! So three mangers have to sign off on each sale! I guess so! lol

I can understand crushing the car but why the reusable parts? The salvage yard can sell just about everything but the whole motor. We hav a contract to sell our CFC's for .09 a pound. about twice scrap value around here. so my 4000 lb van will net 360.00 I here the selling dealer get 50.00 per car and the rest goes back to the trade in owner. We see if that true. Providence Chrysler had Me work the deal for the scrape value. so I hope the balance will go to the right pockets. After parting out they will be crushed.

Here is a better plan than Cash for Clunkers: Buy used, save $5-10,000 (or more)up front and keep your old car as a spare or sell it to someone who really needs a cheap used car! The CFC program is really a bad idea for everybody. Its funny how the environmentalists think they own recycling but fail to see us recycling usd car parts over and over. Let them keep driving their throw away $27,000 Prius, I'll keep hacking around in my old "clunker"

Funny, the program got cancelled after 6 days becuase it ran out of money. It was set up to be funded through November. These are the same clowns that are trying to take over our health care system!!!

from all the reports i read and saw, they are only catching their breath to make sure they do not run out of moneey. They had only transferred about a tenth of the Billion but but were figuring they had enough of a backlog to that they might go over.
Same paper I read an article where some of the banks that were given 55 billion still went ahead to pay 2008 bonuses.
Think about that...imagine if we put 55 billion in the CARS program....that can save some car compaines.

I only wish they'd give some $$$$$ to the people who need it (NOT the illegals or "non-working" people)

My grandmother who is on a fixed income called me and asked if I could help her car shop for a newer car and she wants to clunk out her 95 Chevy Corsica. I go through the whole ordeal only to find out she doesn't qualify because her car gets an awesome 21MPG, when she wanted a car that gets 36MPG. Wow is all I can say!

If the "dirt" people would only realize the energy used and environmental impact that scrapping a car creates is more harmful then just letting things be they would have stopped this program before it got started.
I'll stop here no sense getting into the politics of all this. But hey, if they really wanted to stimulate the economy they could have gave all the citizens a huge chunk of the stimulus money instead. Sudden demand for goods that that could've created would solve employment issues as well.
