....no not your favorite color Jimmy...the television show on speed.

Wondering what the opinions are on this board.

I love the show.  Great entertainment that also happens to include racing.
Just saw the repeat where a guy just got beat by 7 with no nitrous in a heads-up race then proceeds to accept 4 cars and no nitrous and loses.

The nitrous was a FAKE!!

I like the show..... they are learning (by doing) what it really takes to make a good show. Getting the .net or .com boys in there was a big help.
The best of 06 for me was the LIVE internet feed they had doing one of the episodes..... then you can see whats involved with putting a production like that together. Lets face it any exposier doorcar racing can get is good.

Saw the other couple they showed last night too.  That Boston/St. Louis thing was great.  That Boston negotiator tried everything and eventually his own driver just ignored him.  Still lost at the "Caah" though.

That whole show sucks!  It's all a setup.  What person in their right mind would agree to put the title of their car on the line?  Specially when there are no rules.  They just put two cars (or trucks or one of each) on the track and you're supposed to negotiate (lie) your best handicap. No lights to start with. How do you know if the other guy jumped the start?  Great program if you're into fairy tales.

Other then that it's OK.

I enjoy the racing, but the bickering sucks, there is more teenage drama queens in it then dawsons creek, gilmore girls, and all those other teenage drama shows I can't think of...

But I watch it every week...  Wink

I am on the road usually during the week and hotels don't have Speed so I miss it.  On Thanksgiving they did a marathon and I caught pretty much every one of the past two seasons I think.

Each show is very different.  I saw a lot of variety in the cars and the personalities.  I think the negotiating and Rich mediating and sometimes getting mad at them is what makes it great.

Maybe the makes me a teenage drama queen but what do you expect from a guy who has two teenage drama queens at home Cry

Damn, in reading some of the responces I think I am on the younger side of this forum...

BTW, I was not trying to infer anything against you in the teenage drama queen comment, there is just a lot of bitching back and forth on there, but your right though I love the reactions by Rich and crew...

Dick I am a BIG fan of yourwaynetwork.  I think what they are doing for drag racing is awesome.

I also think the first mistake drag racers make about Pinks is that it is a drag racing show.

I do not believe it is a drag racing show.  I never describe it as a drag racing show.  I never expect it to be a drag racing show.  It is a show about people who happen to do some drag racing to satisfy and build their egos.  Kind of a cross of a documentary, sitcom, drama and motorsport show all mixed up into one half hour show.

I don't look to Pinks to give me drag racing coverage and I don't look to drag racing coverage to be the same type entertainment as yourwaynetwork.

Yo SlowFormula...fist you call me a drama queen then you call me old?  What's up with that?  Just kidding bud.  I didn't think you called me that.  You think I'm old, wait till ya meet Biggs...LOL

Well I am still trying to get used to a few things, I am just learning this site and a whole lot about racing I never knew before. Just found YWN from the links on here and spent a few hours watching different things, it's pretty cool...

I find some if this strange because of the other message boards I am on, I am normally one of the older ones and have a lot of info to contribute, it's just different being the one who is behind the curve Wink

I have been doing the streetnight thing at Cecil since I was 16, hanging out cruising and fixing cars (dad was a mechanic) since well before then till my early 20's, then joined the Army, came home and got back into the car sceene about 4+ years ago and primarily on boards dealing with my specific car type, 4th gen F-body, and slowly playing with my car that was a daily driver and is only now becoming more of a track car and getting less street miles put on it. So now I am looking to actually get into some real racing, not just going to the track and running my car, and realized there was soo much I still didn't know...

BTW, I'm only 29, so yes you are old  Tongue

Guys first Pinks is not "setup" or rigged.  In season 1 most of the guys made side deals before hand to just race for cash.  THe production folks found out about it and now you have no idea (Unless it is a grudge match) until you show up, who you will be racing.

It is 100% legit.

The one thing you have to remember is these arent nicely sorted race cars.  They are normally junk thrown together that they dont care if they lose.  In fact a lot of the times the cars on the show are "shop cars" that they used old spare junk parts.....look at it this way, you get free NATIONAL advertising!!  All it will cost is $5000 worth of parts.  (Do you know how much a 30 minute TV show commercial costs??  You would be shocked)

They have come a LONG way in the first 3 seasons.  The first season was a trainwreck but as the production crew figured it out and the rest of the team got sorted the show got much better.  It is NOT a drag racing show in my opinion.

If you havent seen yet, two IHRA Top Fuel guys; Doug Foley and Bobby Lagana are putting Rails up for slips!!!!  Next year!!

http://www.1320tv.com/featured.asp?vid=12-04-06/pinks_top_fuel_final&title=Ultimate%20PINKS&des=Bobby%20Lagana%20and%20Doug%20Foley%20to%20put%20Top%20Fuel%20Dragsters%20on%20the%20line%20in%20upcoming%20winner-take-all%20program

In case someone says I have no idea what I am talking about.....I was on the show 3 times and one of my longtime friends is Nate Pritchett the "Technical Advisor".

1SlowFormula, your still not quite the young pup of the class. You've got me covered by 5 years. I am so excited about running this deal this year. It's pretty much all I get done is messing with this board and getting stuff ready for April. I am honored to even be able to run with this series and just hope I can be competitive and take some knowledge home with me from some of the other guys. As far as PINKS, I agree with 93ls1rx7 as the seasons progress they get better. There are some decisions that I don't agree with, but I don't have nearly big enough of a sack to step up and even put junk together and put it on the line, so I can't really say anything. I have followed it from the first show and would have loved to see Nathan take that camaro home with him after getting jerked around by him both times (Orlando and Indy).

As far as Pinks goes, it's entertainment. I don't know Nate Pritchett at all. But to me, he comes off as an A-hole. Haha

And for you youngen's. Glad to have you! It keeps our sport growing. I raced with the NMRA in 2004 and I was the oldest racer (40) that followed the series that year. Funny thing about it was they all thought I was their age. Haha Must have been the mudslides. Smiley

Nate is an asshole.  I tell it to him all the time  Grin

As far as the MIR All-Out......let me put it this way......Nate/Rich had no idea an agreement was even reached with the production company and the Miller family until it was shown on the MIR website.

To say what range of cars they are looking for at this point is out of the question.

The Camaro race in Indy was a joke.  It was supposed to be my RX7 versus Tony's Camaro with an LS1 based small block.  My car had isues coming together and so Nate brought the Mustang.  Well Tony shows up with an old 454 LS6 big block and he was still way slow.

So Edgar,  I don't know what form of sports you may be into but for sake of this discussion let's say you're a football fan.  Would you watch a football game that's as contrived as pinks is?  There is no real competition there.

Short answer?  Yes!!!!

Long answer, let's say you are into football?
Would you watch a football movie?  How about the HBO series about football (forgot the name) and the new network programming Friday Night Lights? While some are based on true life stories, there are some that are not and the ones that are...you cannot say they are not "dramatically" enhanced?  I would watch a football movie for what watching a football game cannot give me.  Thus Pinks gives me what a Drag Race cannot.

What about he John Force show?  You watch that?  That is not about drag racing...it is about a family distracted, torn and being put back together that just happens to have some drag racing in it.

Good point! and well stated!  I now see why you watch Pinks.  The only difference in Pinks and the football movie you mention is the Pinks guy pretends it's a real race. In the football movie you know walking in the theater it's not real or it is "dramatically" enhanced.  I would still rather watch real racing. To each his/her own.

I never watched the John Force show.  Don't really have a reason for not watching just never got around to it.

The whole Pinks crew is a little goofy but I watch it religiously.
I saw Rich Christian at the PRI show - he's a little guy, he must wear elevator shoes on camera.

They need to match up closer cars - its always one guy bringing a knife to a gun fight.
With evenly matched cars the negotiation would be a lot better - Rich won't give the necessary long spots to most of the slower cars that they really need to win.

The quantity and level of stupid reasons to lose never ceases to amaze me.

Jeff Creech of Carolina Auto Masters prepped the car and negotiated for the team that ran the Firebird against the ricer and won.
They came prepared to win and were up against an equally quick car - great story when you hear Jeff tell it. They did sell the guy his car back a few weeks after the race but it wasn't a rigged deal, this was the second season.
Jeff has the plastic ricer nose hanging up over his dyno with signatures of everybody involved.
