OK,

I was wondering what is checked during tech in at the different tracks the series goes to. I was spoiled by Cecil who really didn't tech my car ever, they gave it a quick once over, verified the driver wasn't wearing shorts or flipflops, and since I always drove it in I guess they just assumed it was good to go. Huh?

I went to Maple Grove last month for the first time, they failed me on the tech in because then battery holddown was broken, and my helmet wasn't legal. Anyone that knows the late model f-body knows that the battery is wedged in there and is a PITA to get in and out when completely unhooked, so I never really noticed the holddown being broke, and the helmet was a motorcycle helmet that I got new in 02, and they said it isn't up to standards...

Since I just drove over an hour to get there, paid to get in and all I wasn't going to give up and go home. Especially since I had only raced the car once last year, that was prior to some of the work it took me all summer/fall to do, and I really wanted to see how it would do. Unfortunatly, I only had my toolbox, and had to scrounge around for a way to fix the battery hold down, and ended up taking my wife's umbrella out of the truck and used the metal shaft of it to make a bracket, crude but it worked. And another guy was good enough to lend me his helmet to run back through the tech line with. And by the time I had everything done I only got 1 run in, but I was pretty happy with it (in my sig) considering...

So now I must pose the question, what are they looking for and what needs to either be there or to what standard do they need to be at the different tracks? The only answer Keep getting on other boards are NHRA rules, blah, blah, blah. But for some reason I have not been able to find anything specifically telling what they should inspect during tech in...

Thanks for the help...

Sorry sir but the safety tech is up to each track. What they feel is safe and fits under the NHRA/IHRA guidelines. We only do the class tech, we have no control over safety.

Get an NHRA rulebook.  $10  It'll tell you what you need to have for your ET.  If it's good for NHRA, it'll likely be just fine for IHRA.
